Taking a sale at the till

The till is built so a new counter hand can serve on their first morning: scan or type, check the price, take the money. This is the whole flow, including the bits people miss — split payments, holding a sale and the yard pick slip.

    Enter your PIN

The till asks for a four-digit PIN before the first sale, after every completed sale and whenever someone presses Lock in the top bar. Whoever enters the PIN is recorded as the person who served the sale, and their name prints on the receipt. If the till says the PIN belongs to more than one person, pick your name from the list.

    • PINs are set under Settings → Staff on the till. Leave a PIN blank and that person can be picked with a tap instead.
  2. 2

    Add the products

Scan a barcode, or type into the box at the top left — it searches by product name, SKU and supplier at once. Press Enter on the highlighted result to add it to the basket. On a quiet counter you can also tap a category tile and pick from the list. Prices on the tiles are ex VAT.

    • Something not in the catalogue? Press F4 for a Quick Sale item: a description and a unit price ex VAT, straight onto the basket.
    • Change the quantity or the unit price on the basket line itself; a line discount goes in the Disc % column.
  3. 3

    Set who is buying

A cash sale needs no customer. Type a name in the Customer box to build a history for them, or press F2 to pick a saved trade account. Picking an account switches the Customer type from Retail to Trade automatically, applies their price band or contract prices, and shows any follow-ups due for them on the till.

    • An email address on the sale means the receipt can be emailed as well as printed.
  4. 4

    Check the totals

The totals panel shows goods, discount, net, VAT and gross. An order-level discount can be entered as a percentage or a pound amount. If your business sells zero-rated or export goods and has the switch turned on in Settings, a No VAT toggle appears here too.

  5. 5

    Take the payment

Choose Cash, Card, Bank transfer or On account. Cash shows the change to give. Card asks for the authorisation code from the card machine’s slip — it prints on the receipt, and you can carry on without one. On account bills a trade account instead of taking money now; the till checks their credit limit and stops the sale if they are on stop or over it.

    • Part cash, part card: enter the first amount, press Part now, then take the rest the other way.
    • If the internet has dropped the sale still completes. It shows as queued and gets its receipt number when the till syncs.
  6. 6

    Hand over the receipt

The Sale complete card shows the total, the change and the receipt number. Print receipt uses your normal print dialogue; Email the receipt sends it to the address on the sale. Press Next customer to lock the till for the next person.

    • Made a mistake? Edit this sale voids it, refunds the money the way it was paid and puts the basket back so you can correct it and take payment again.

Holding a sale for later

A customer who has gone back to the car for their wallet should not hold up the queue. Press Hold this sale and the basket is parked under Held with their name and the time. Serve the next person, then tap the held sale to bring it straight back.

The yard pick slip

If your goods are collected from a yard rather than handed over the counter, turn on Printing at the counter under Settings. Each completed sale then prints a narrow slip with the bin, code and quantity of every line, which the customer takes to the yard.

Questions merchants ask

Can I take a sale without a PIN?

Yes. Under Settings → Staff on the till, leave the PIN blank for anyone who should be picked with a tap. Set a PIN where sales must be attributable to a named person.

What does the Retail / Trade switch actually do?

It applies the Retail or Trade margin set under Settings → Retail & trade pricing to every product’s cost. A trade account’s own price band or contract price always wins over the switch.
