Installing the app and working offline

PlanIt EPOS runs in a browser, installs as an app on any device you already own, and keeps trading when the connection goes. This guide covers the install on each kind of device and what offline actually means at the counter.

  1. 1

Install on a PC or Mac

Sign in at app.planitepos.com in Chrome or Edge. The app offers Install itself the first time; otherwise use the browser menu → Install app. It then opens full-screen from its own icon like any other program, with the till’s keyboard shortcuts and your printers exactly as before.

  2. 2

Install on a phone or tablet

On iPhone and iPad, open it in Safari, press the Share button and choose Add to Home Screen. On Android, use the browser menu → Install app. The same login works on every device; the phone is the one to take round the shelves for stock takes and goods in.

  3. 3

    Plug in the counter hardware

Any standard USB barcode scanner works because it types the code in like a keyboard, and any receipt printer with a driver for the device works because receipts go through the normal print dialogue. Turn on Printing at the counter under Settings if you want the yard pick slip after every sale.

  4. 4

Keep selling when the internet drops

The till shows Offline and carries on. Sales complete, the receipt prints, and each one is queued; it gets its receipt number when the connection returns and the till syncs. Products, customers and stock were downloaded to the device when you signed in, so search and pricing work as normal.

  5. 5

    Sync and notifications

The sync menu in the top bar pushes queued changes and pulls the latest, or re-downloads products, customers and stock to this device if it ever looks stale. The bell shows notifications — an order become ready, goods arrived against a PO, a stock take posted, the chasing run gone out — and an installed app can show them even when it is closed.

Questions merchants ask

Do I need a particular till or touchscreen?

No. It runs on the PC, laptop, Mac or tablet you already have. The only extras a counter needs are a barcode scanner and a receipt printer.

What happens if two tills sell the last one while offline?

Both sales complete, and the stock figure goes negative when they sync so you can see it and sort it, rather than one of them being refused at the counter.

Does the app update itself?

Yes. Updates download in the background and apply when the device has been idle for a few minutes with nothing in progress.

Not covered here?

Ask PlanIt inside the app answers questions from your own data and opens the right screen. For anything else, support is a message away and goes to someone who understands trade counters.
