PlanIt EPOS

Getting started

Set up in an afternoon, selling by the end of it

Seven steps, in the order that works. Most merchants get through the first five before the kettle has boiled twice.

  1. 1

    Create your business

planitepos.com → Start your free trial

Business name, the kind of merchant you are, an email and a password. That is the whole form. Picking your trade gives you a starter set of categories and product attributes (cable sizes for electrical, pipe diameters for plumbing, timber dimensions for builders) that you can change later. No card is asked for; the 14-day trial starts the moment you press the button.

  2. 2

    Put your company details in

    Settings → Company details

Address, phone, email, VAT number and whether you are VAT registered. These print on every receipt, quote, invoice and credit note, so do this before the first sale. Add bank details under Receipts & payment details if you want them on invoices for account customers.

    • Not VAT registered? Untick the box and every sale is priced without VAT automatically.
    • Branding lets you drop a logo in and pick an accent colour; documents and the app pick it up.
  3. 3

    Get your products in

    Products, or Imports

Add a few by hand to start: SKU, name, cost, price, a barcode if it has one. For a whole range, go to Imports and drop in a supplier price list. A spreadsheet is matched by column; a PDF is read for you and every line lands in a review inbox where you accept, correct or reject before anything changes.

    • Opening stock goes in from the product page. Selling before it is entered is allowed; the stock figure just goes negative until you book it in.
    • Pricing → Reprice sets prices across a whole category or supplier from a margin or markup, with a preview before it applies.
  4. 4

    Set up your account customers

    Customers

Cash sales need no customer at all. For trade accounts, add the business, give it a price band (Trade or Trade Gold take a percentage off list) and a credit limit. Their balance, statements and ageing appear under Accounts from the first invoice.

    • Contract prices for one customer on one product live under Pricing → Contracts and beat the band.
  5. 5

    Take your first sale

    POS — Sell

Open the till with a float under Cash up. Then scan or search, adjust quantities, apply a discount if you need to, and take cash, card or bank transfer, or put it on account. The receipt prints or emails. If the internet drops the sale still completes and syncs when it is back.

    • F4 anywhere is a quick one-off line for something that is not in the catalogue.
    • Hold a sale to serve someone else, then recall it.
    • A customer who wants something you have not got: press Order, take a deposit, and the stock is reserved the moment it arrives.
  6. 6

Give the counter their own logins

    Settings → Logins

Invite staff by email. They get a link, choose a password and see the till, orders, stock, customers and cash up. Owners see everything, including settings, pricing, buying, accounts and reports. Staff on the till (under Settings) is separate: it records who served each sale, with an optional PIN.

  7. 7

    When the trial ends

    Settings → Billing

£99 a month with one till included, £29 a month for each extra till, rolling monthly, cancel any time. Subscribing during the trial does not cut it short; the first payment is taken when the trial would have ended. If you let the trial lapse, nothing is deleted: the account goes read-only until you subscribe.
